Jonah battles his baby-boomer parents' wishes for him to become a lawyer as he tries to buy time to find some meaning, if only he could stay sober. Ultimately, Echoboom is a film about the next generation flooding the workforce, the heavy achievers destined to move back home with their parents. It takes friends to figure out life isn't a journey, it's a destination.

My Review of Echoboom

MY REVIEW OF ECHOBOOM (A completely biased and nonobjective discussion of the film)

This movie is described as "the last 6 months of adolescence", and it captures that moment in life perfectly. Though I am not a member of the "echoboom" generation (I was born 5 yrs too early) I can completely relate to what the characters are going through as college graduation nears. It is probably one of the scariest times in life, when you know you will never be a kid again. While I never experimented with drugs, or drank as heavily as the characters in the film, I can relate to the huge changes that come at that time of life, and how friendships change over the course of time. During those months, as graduation nears, you really do feel like you have to do everything, and see everything before responsibility and maturity sneak in. And some of us are still in that frame of mind, even (several years) after graduation! OK, enough about the psychology behind the film…I know my primary audience for this review wants to know one thing and one thing only: How was Max Crumm? In the following paragraph, I will answer this question.

Max plays "Goldberg," described as one of "the two biggest stoners on campus". And he captures that persona perfectly. Max is one of the most talented comedic performers I have ever seen. His timing is masterful. And as you know, most actors say comedy is harder to do than drama, so this shows him as quite a talent, indeed. While the entire movie had great laugh out loud moments, none made me laugh as much as I did almost every time Max was on the screen. The writer of the film (Zack Jerome) and the producer (Thomas Dodson) knew what they had in Max Crumm. I believe he had the wittiest lines in the film. He was perfect in the role. He portrayed it so well, I was wondering if he had actually "toked" before shooting started! (And if he did, please don't tell me…don't ruin the image I have of him!) Anyway, I could go on and on about how great Max is, but most of the people who are going to read this already know how I feel, and this movie just convinced me all the more that he is one of the most talented up and coming actors there is. Broadway is lucky to have him. First Broadway, and then…the world! But anyway, let me take some time to say some other things about the film.

The rest of the cast was phenomenal as well. The entire cast is so talented that I find it hard to believe they haven't all broken through to become household names! The young actors we are seeing all over TV now don't hold a candle to the people in this film! And the directing and editing are genius! The movie is very visually stunning, in the way that what you seen on the screen helps to portray what the characters are feeling or thinking. This was a terrific film, and I don't have anything bad to say about it…..well, almost anything….My one complaint about this film…Not enough MAX!!! But then again, is there EVER enough Max???

And on a side note, when you get the DVD, be sure to check out the outtakes. They are priceless! Again, Max is hilarious!

Anyway, in my "professional" opinion, as one of Max Crumm's biggest fans, this film gets 5 out of 5 stars!
