Review :
Brilliant Idea.. and Nothing More !
Since there isn't a plot summery for it at the IMDb.. Allow me :
1951 : a married young man named (Khososy) had been captured wrongfully by the English occupation forces (that occupied Egypt in the period between 1882 to 1952). Some patriotic Egyptians help him out to run away through a ship will cross the Atlantic. At Bermuda's triangle he travels into time to find himself at the year of 2005 on a ship goes to the Egyptian beach (Safaga). He meets the lovely girl (Gamila) who believes his story. (Gamila) informs his own 3 children that their lost father from the year of 1951 is here, they're unsuccessful poor persons whom hate each other powerfully. The 3 of them try to persuade their young father to sell the family's ancient villa to gain a lot of money through it. When (Khososy) refused they begin to make him believe that the villa has ghosts, or that it's about to collapse. (Khososy) solves all of his family's problems and marries (Gamila) to live peacefully with his family at the very villa.
Brilliant idea for a fantasy of course. But that was the first brilliant thing here and the last as well ! It looked like the "Moqawalat" kind of movies of the 1980s where everything was in lowest level, except for slight differences such as its idea, and the sense of production at it !
(Mohammad Attia) was the recent winner of the famous TV's program (Star Academy) "The Arabic version". So the whole movie was nothing but a cheap profiting from his sudden fame. In fact his briskness was maybe the only thing that could be watch-able through this movie.
There wasn't much of a script in here whereas it's just deficient sketches one after another without any sense of coherence or any good drama. Despite some good old expressions in (Khososy)'s dialogue to assure his era's culture, the whole thing looked like hasty improvised scenes just to make the movie fast enough before the fame of (Attia) fades away. Otherwise how (Khososy), who hits the English occupiers with stones, tries desperately to sell the patriotic publications just to make money ?! Is he a patriotic or what ? In fact what did change in his personality during the events ?! Moreover how the 3 old children believed that this young man is their lost father ?, or how (Khososy) managed to solve all their problems successfully at the last 3 minutes of the movie ? Or how those sons as a swindler characters all along became so sweet and fine suddenly at the end ?!! ..And so on !
It was unbearable to watch the three comic stars (Hassan Hosny), (Hala Fakher), and (Salah Abdallah) in such pathetic roles as (Khososy)'s old children with nothing to do but verbal very silly jokes !
Aside from being a very primitive comedy, it's a very primitive fantasy as well because the movie didn't try to explain how (Khososy) traveled through time in the first place ! It was a dull fabrication to bring him to the year of 2005 just like when they put him in one contemporary party to take drugs so he can sing a song while he is stoned ! Really it could've been a bitter irony between one generation loved to be patriotic poetic at the 1950s, and another which loves only narcotic at the 2000s, but maybe in another movie other than this one !
Sometimes it seemed as a musical comedy with songs like (Nahark Saa'ed) or (Good Day for You) where the old Egyptian movies were being spoofed to think just for moments that it's some kind of nice parody, but sorry, it might be the lousiest fantastic/musical comedy ever made in the Egyptian cinema !
The director (Sameh Abdelaziz) was basically a TV's director who made some programs and video clips before. Here through his first movie he couldn't make a connected whole one out of those strange scenes, or even a good farce, or a respectable satire about a decayed family. With a lot of fade-outs all the time and close to theatrical performance, not to mention the strong case of belittlement which's clear during the whole 100 minutes ! So when (Attia) sings (How Great To Be Connected with Each Other) at the end you'd feel how he should've sung it about the movie itself !
All in all it's a real bad movie with one skillful idea which unfortunately had been killed...Skillfully.
