why do I watch this ****?

My summer holidays are almost 3 months long, as a consequence I tend to get bored, and so I watch far too many movies, good bad and ugly. Unfortunately, that is my only excuse for having watched this dismal film.

I'm finding it difficult in deciding how to begin bashing this movie. What was worse: acting, story, editing, screenplay? It's hard to decide.

The story is simple, a bunch of young Indian friends living in Dubai, and their individual as well as intersecting stories. Something that could have turned out to be a small budget hit is completely ruined by terrible story and rubbish acting.

The movie only gets a 2 for the song meri kahani, which is worth listening to.

Rest assured, definitely not worth a watch. As for why I'm wasting my time writing this comment, just to warn other unwary viewers from watching this movie.

Review :

A good start

Having watched "Happy Days" & "Godavari" I was very keen to watch Shekhar Kammula's first outing "Anand". Indeed he shows a lot of promise stamping "a director to watch out for".

Technically the product is quite superior and no ways to that. The writing, screenplay, background score, music and lyrics are top-notch. The fluidity that is maintained from one frame to another deserves a special mention.

Keeping in mind the new generation of audience, loads of crumbs are thrown in which I am sure they will instantly connect and relish. "Anand" has immense fresh appeal.

Kamalinee Mukherjee gets a platform of her lifetime. The director effectively manages to capture variety of emotions that you can't help but simply fall in love with the girl-next-door.

Raja (as Anand) was slightly below par. I was anticipating Siddharth kind of performance and was slightly disappointed there.

Anuj Gurwara (as Rahul) was good.

Satya Krishnan (as Anita) deserves a special mention. Her character was etched quite well and it was nicely complimented by her performance.

The second half could have been trimmed but not a worrying factor. Or maybe because I watched the "Directors Cut" I perceived it longer than usual.

Definitely recommended.

PS: I particularly liked incorporating the scene from Rajesh Khanna's "Anand" as Mr. Kammula's ode to the original classic.

Vijaykanth is battling for his life in a hospital. Hundreds of people throng the hospital shouting Gaja Gaja. Now Vijaykanth's aide Ramesh Kanna reveals the past. Vijaykanth had gone to Hyderabad with a mission to bring back Sarath Babu's estranged daughter Seetha who eloped with Rajiv , now running an ayurvedic hospital. Laya daughter of Seetha falls in love with Vijaykanth. Vijaykanth manages to convince Rajiv about reuniting with his father in law. At this point don Rana's brother kills Seetha. Radha Ravi an ACP in the city is helpless before the power of Rana. Vijaykanth in turn kills Rana's brother and becomes the savior to those suffering from the don's atrocities. The don and Vijaykanth battle it out. Rajiv and his daughter decide to go to Chennai. Rana plants a bomb in the suitcase of Rajiv because the CM is also travelling in it. Vijaykanth left with no option but to shoot down Rajiv who is about to board the train. Laya who is thrown off the train suffers a brain damage. On hearing that Vijaykant is in the hospital, Rana comes out of jail to wreck vengeance. A gory battle takes place in which Rana is killed.

Vijayykanth hams his way through while Liagath Ali Khan makes use of all possible way to squeeze in politically loaded dialogues. The two heroines having nothing much to do. Suresk Krishna as a director does not have much to do since the major part of the film is fights. Camera-work by Prathap is innovative and Deva has a soothing song in the film. A careful adaptation to suit the Tamil audience could have done the trick.

Even better than first one!

This movie follows Bore Lees previous masterpiece - U kandzama velegrada, only - EVERYTHING IS MUCH BETTER HERE! When I say "everything", i think of fight scenes, special effects, villains, scenery, camera work, director craftsmanship etc... Sometimes I work as a movie critic for several Croatian newspapers so I've got opportunity to see many movies but this one takes the cake! It is rather unbelievable that this film is so cheap because it doesn't look like that: car chases (exploding cars), so many extras, vivid costumes and many star cameo people in this movie. If you like early work from Sam Raimi or even Peter Jackson (that means - if you are true trash fan!) I recommend this one from the bottom of my heart. Also, check out the soundtrack for this movie because it has music from some of the hottest rap stars from Balkan - Edo Maajka, The Beat Fleet, Postolar Triper and many others. The only things it needs to be perfect is - more nude chicks! :)

Funny at 101%

I first saw this movie when it came out in 2004 and thought it was very funny. Then I realised it was funny to only a certain extent. I also discovered early on how tight the budget for this film was. If you're a huge fan of Shuster, then by all means watch this film over and over again. If your not, watch it once, then return it. Trust me, if you watch it twice the Term, 'Bad Movie' is redifined. Go to your local DVD store today and check out this film but return it as soon as the film is over. Watching it once will give you enough laughs, but twice kills the whole thing as the jokes already feel old and boring. If you do not like this Shuster movie then try and find Panic Mechanic, which has twice the laughs and a much better storyline.

Overall I can conclude saying Leon Shuster is an excellent prankster but sometimes goes overboard. Like i said, go see this movie if you are South African.
