Typical Canadian type Characters

Canadians really love Characters that are odd and look to fit in, something like the country itself. That being said i found the film enjoyable mainly because being Canadian i could Identify with the settings and the atmosphere that was created. The 3 main characters could have been in the 70's 80's 90's or the present they have that low key Canadian way of going about their business that business just happens to be trying to pull off a ridiculous caper because they are unable to find a job and have become desperate to prove their worth to family and friends so their plan is to rob the loose change that is at the bottom of fountains in shopping malls...."that would be like stealing peoples dreams"

Entertaining and lighthearted, not the weighty, life-altering work of genius some see

We Pedal Uphill is entertaining enough to keep me watching, which is not a trivial accomplishment considering the fact that I probably have some form of ADD, at least when it comes to watching movies. Unlike other reviewers, I was not bowled over by its power and profound insight into how neurotic our country has become in recent years. Maybe it's because they saw it while Bush was still in office and I didn't.

One of the best things on the DVD is Roland Tec's commentary. It is lighthearted and intelligent and does much to dispel the rather pompous and weighty view people seem to have taken of his movie. He and his collaborators talk about how political some of the earlier-filmed segments were in comparison to the more relaxed and less paranoid view of some of the later segments (in order of filming, NOT of presentation).

In general, the movie is entertaining and well-constructed; but it's not the work of profound, life-altering and transcendent genius some reviewers say it is. The title segment, in which PR folks agonize over an upcoming Presidential cycling photo-op, is hilarious.

Good Qirky Film

An offbeat comedy in the style of "Bottle Rocket" and "After Hours".

I had my trepidations about watching this film but I am very happy that I did go and see this film.

Why? In general the cast of this film is very talented especially Colin Hanks as Wiley Roth.

Addtionally the whole plot is just so different from the reprocessed crap that usually comes out of Hollywood.

Wiley Roth(Hanks) finds a severed human finger in his kitchen one night. Understandably freaked out, Wiley and his best friend Mitch try to figure out the mystery of the finger, in a search across Los Angeles that brings them in contact with psychics, ineffectual police, crooked taxidermists, mysterious neighbors who might be on drugs, and a nine-fingered woman named Cheryl who might, improbably, end up being the girl of his dreams.

I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to watch a generally funny and entertaining film.

A well deserved 9 out of 10

Funny, original story with some great scenes

I saw this at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan.

Tracy Orbinson (Hubbel Palmer) is an overweight grocery store worker who has dreams of becoming an actor. He takes acting classes and is greatly impressed by his acting teacher Truman Hope (William Baldwin). Along the way he befriends a group of teenagers and tries to reform them from their rowdy ways. The film is filled with a lot of entertaining scenes and funny moments, it's a good and fun movie.

I loved the first half of the movie, it was very funny ad great to watch. But I felt it lost some of its wit and comedy when the teenagers and Hubbel concocted a plan regarding the grocery store, and the film never really recovered after it. It still had some charm in the second half, but it started to become a comedy/drama, and I would have preferred the film to be a consistent comedy.

Directed by Chris Bowman and written and starring Hubble Palmer, it's a worthy effort. The first half is great, and the ending also has the same flare as the beginning of the film. Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, actress Mary Lynn Rajskub, and producer Jeremy Coon were at the film festival and had some funny stories to tell about the making of the film. They were a nice group of people and obviously had a great time making the film.

One of the most boring movies I have ever seen

One of the most boring movies I have ever seen.

I saw it at the Sofia Film festival, and felt like I lost 2hours of my precious life. The movie was so desperately trying to be real that it actually got BORING. The act is poor, the camera is awful, the script is out of control. New plot lines appear all the time leaving the previous open topics unclosed (leaving the audience to decide for itself...woah! that is something we definitely have never seen?!?) I could hardly keep myself from drifting off. I think that movies like this give a bad name to the Balkan productions on the screen. Definitely not going to see another movie form this director!

I heard someone say 'it is better than Collateral'.

Killer is an awful copy of an amazing Hollywood thriller Collateral (2004) starring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise.

To call Killer awful would be too charitable. This Bollywood film is all lows and no highs.

If you haven't seen Collateral, Killer might even strike you as an unconventional Bollywood film. But if, like us, you have seen the edge-of-the-seat Hollywood film, Killer will come across as a distasteful piece of work.

Like Collateral, Killer is the story of a cab driver and a hit man who hires a car for a full night and forces the cabbie to drive him from one hit to another.

As the cab driver Max, Jamie Foxx dazzled us with his extraordinary passion and superb dialogs.

Killer's biggest disappointment is Emran Hashmi's totally inadequate performance as the cab driver Nikhil Joshi. Emran just fails to bring the verve and explosive energy that Jamie Foxx brought to his role in Collateral.

While Collateral is set in Los Angeles, in Killer all the action happens in Dubai.

The final 20 minutes or so in Collateral when Tom Cruise goes to kill his last victim - the female prosecutor (who was earlier in the evening a passenger in Jamie Foxx' cab) - was riveting. We found the last 20 minutes in Killer to be distressing. The ending, particularly.

Jamie Foxx' metamorphosis from a scared, cowering, average cab driver into a possessed soul determined to thwart Tom Cruise from killing the prosecutor was sheer pleasure to watch. Emran Hashmi's metamorphosis was sheer torture to behold.

Irfaan Khan throws in a much better performance as the cold-blooded contract killer Vikram as he goes around Dubai knocking off witnesses scheduled to testify against Mafia don Jabbar.

Nisha Kothari has a limited role but is all right as the voluptous nightclub crooner Rhea.

Yet again, Killer proves the poverty of ideas plaguing Bollywood.

Collateral was a fine thriller. Killer is a total stinker.

A Few Cool Particularities, But Still Bad

"Low budget" is not a valid excuse for a lousy film. Some great films have been products of extremely low budgets. This is not one of them.

Quick plot summary: Halloween night, sister's boyfriend pretends he's a masked murderer. Sister doesn't get the joke and screams for help. Young brother arrives with blade in hand and viciously attacks assailant. Shoot forward one year, sister and brother are moving to a new town and attend a locals' Halloween party on a pumpkin farm. As the evening progresses, so does the body count.

The villain's mask in this film is above average in the grotesque category and was pretty effective. Amy Weber and Minka Kelly are gorgeous. A couple of interesting plot twists.

Now for the bad: 4000 plot holes! Albeit, the masked-serial murderer has been (pardon the pun) done to death, but this film had potential to be a decent Halloween flick. Unfortunately, it is all presented in a choppy, careless manner that not even its gratuitous (and extremely brief) bare breast scene could assist in saving.

Amy Weber and Minka Kelly are gorgeous, though.

I can't say why, but I liked it

I find the mark on IMDb really low for the quality of the movie. The characters were complex and the acting great. Maybe the problem was that the characters really were too complex. Imagine a classy diner where 5 women try to satisfy the whims of their high-paying customers, while fighting a rat infestation and each having emotional issues to deal with.

It is, by all means, a film for women. Men watching this might not enjoy the endless laments and the emotional way in which the characters deal with their problems. However I find that the roles themselves were well crafted: a boss who seems to employ every annoying management technique in the book and drive her employees insane with difficult requests, but underneath a nice person that fights to reconcile her job with her conscience; an unemployed actress, always acting superior, but underneath feeling that she has failed in her life; a hysterical writer that can't publish her book; a new-age type of girl who lives in the past and tries to fix everybody; a middle aged woman who wants to feel alive again.

This is it. It feels like a play, it has only 5 characters and a guest appearance of Danny Houston, it plays with your emotions, but it really has a more appeal to women than men. Good movie though, and it deserves a higher mark.

Hi! My name is Tom, and I'm a Republican.

At first, I was a little apprehensive to go see a show making fun of my political party. I expected all the usual and very old jokes. I went in hopes of dating a boy and that part of the evening went really badly. The best part of the evening was seeing four incredibly talented singers performing some original songs and parodies. Their voices blended perfectly, their dancing and acting were simply fabulous, and every number gave me such a charge that I wanted to buy a T-Shirt. (Which incidentally, were not available.) Yes, some songs were the epitome of camp, but others, like "I want to be in the GOP" had lyrics which were intelligent, satirical, and clever.

The only negative comment (thus meriting the 9 of 10) I can give is I felt there were too many audience shots. While this is a performance/concert movie, a lot of the action was chopped up by the cuts to the audience. Some were great for mood, but others just seemed gratuitous.

This was the first time I had ever seen men perform in drag. It was nothing like what I expected. The group had a powerful message delivered through brilliant performance. The voices were absolutely amazing. All four members have incredible talent. If you get an opportunity to see this movie, I highly recommend it. If it comes out on DVD, I will be sure to pick up a copy. I'm a fan of the Kinsey Sicks now, and hope to see them perform live soon.

Go forth and conquer, Kenny!

This is a truly wonderful film. The acting, direction and camera-work really give it a realistic and believable feel - I actually forgot that the film was fictional while watching it. I resent a comment posted earlier on this site suggesting that this film should only be released in Australia because they are the only ones who can truly appreciate it. That's exactly the mentality that keeps these types of authentic, quirky movies struggling and big budget airhead movies so comfortable. Being Canadian does not necessarily mean I can only appreciate Canadian film, and Canadian film has no place in the global market - that's ridiculous! "Kenny" is a perfect example of a small film with a very particular focus and a healthy approach to local charm and quirkiness. Whether you've heard any of his hilarious expressions before or not, they will still be adorably funny. The characters are genuine, the story is charming and the artistic vision is strong. Obviously different cultures will appreciate films differently but I really believe that this film merits as much success as it can find. I hate to gush but really, this movie deserves much props.

Eisner could have been right with this crap on a stick

This was possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. It makes dukes of hazards look like Gone With The Wind.

The only time I laughed at the movie was from relief, when it ended. The jokes in the movie were horrible. For example, when skeletons came out of the ground they said "Pirates of the Carribian." Thats it. WHAT? This movie was released by the weinstien brothers who were the head of mirimax. Michael Eisner fired them a few years ago, I am starting to think that this was a good idea, because even Eisner would not release stink like this.

Also, the dubbing was horrible. There was a moose in the movie, whose mouth did not move, but he still spoke. Don't see this movie, it sucks.
